Smart City Technology Innovator OSIsoft Joins RTCC

Research Triangle Region, N.C. – OSIsoft LLC (, leading provider of infrastructure technology for the management of real-time data and events, has joined the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) as an industry member.

“We are extremely delighted to have OSIsoft join the RTCC," said Lee Anne Nance, RTCC managing director and executive vice president of the Research Triangle Regional Partnership, which created and manages the RTCC.

“OSIsoft offers deep industry knowledge and experience collaborating with innovators in every aspect of smart grid, smart water and smart transportation, including many of our cluster companies,” Nance said. “The company is also a leader in smart city visioning and development, which should benefit our Chatham Park technology partnership.”

Through that partnership, RTCC members will play a lead role in developing a model sustainable “smart city” on 7,000 acres in Chatham County.

For its part, OSIsoft finds the region’s strong history of collaboration among business, government and academic partners – its Triple Helix approach to innovation and economic development – a compelling value add, said Dave Roberts, OSIsoft Fellow and global market principal for Smart Cities.

“You have a very progressive utility – Duke Energy – working to innovate along many lines, a cluster that is very strong, and a 7,000-acre site ripe for development as a model for smart, sustainable living that can be replicated in other markets,” Roberts said. “These are exciting assets.”

OSIsoft’s PI System connects, acquires, stores, contextualizes and presents real-time data across companies, value chains and now cities. Many of the region’s cleantech companies use OSISoft’s PI System to deploy their energy management solutions.

In addition, the company’s new technology partnership, @cityscale, launched in September with Microsoft’s CityNext program, should offer insights relevant to the Chatham Park project. Like that project, the OSIsoft-Microsoft partnership focuses on connecting governments, businesses and citizens with city services that increase efficiencies, reduce costs, foster a more sustainable environment and cultivate communities where people thrive.

“With smart cities, like Chatham Park, we can bring everything we’ve learned serving industry over the past 33 years to transform the community experience,” Roberts said. “Having all of the key partners in your cluster engaged at this point in space is a powerful opportunity.”

OSIsoft responded to RTCC’s fall campaign to recruit members at the mid- to large-sized firm level with a $15,000-a-year investment. This level allows OSIsoft to accelerate its business growth and the region’s cleantech economy.

RTCC’s fall recruiting campaign continues. Anyone working in the cleantech economy can participate in the cluster network at no cost. Paying members receive greater access to global market leaders and opportunities to leverage the RTCC collaboration to expand their business. They also help RTCC develop solutions to industry challenges, such as talent recruitment, workforce development and policies that impact business growth. For more information, visit
