Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster’s annual meeting speakers to focus on decarbonization efforts byNorth Carolina communities, corporations, and utilities
RALEIGH, N.C. (November 20, 2020) - Speakers from North Carolina companies, utilities, and government will present their visions of decarbonization at the 2020 Annual Meeting of the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC). An initiative of business, government, academic and nonprofit leaders focused on accelerating the growth of the statewide and regional cleantech economy, RTCC will hold its annual meeting virtually on December 9th in conjunction with its Second Annual Cleantech Innovation Awards ceremony.
As momentum grows for the decarbonization in virtually every sector of the world economy, companies, utilities, and governments are beginning to outline their vision and their roles in achieving carbon neutrality in their operations. This commitment extends to some traditionally fossil fuel-based businesses, such as airlines and petroleum companies.
Local governments are joining in the effort to reduce carbon emissions, with a $20B investment commitment from New York City to adapt neighborhoods to these new energy technologies. Closer to home in North Carolina, more than 15 local governments and state agencies have pledged to decarbonize their operations.
“The technologies and commitment to achieving carbon neutrality has often been compared to NASA’s ‘moonshot,’ and North Carolina’s cleantech industry will play a pivotal leadership role in this worldwide effort,”said Susan Sanford, executive director of the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC). “For our 2020 annual meeting, we have assembled a panel of experts representing the state’s corporations, utilities, and government to describe the cleantech initiatives taking place in the state and the regions we work toward decarbonization of our state’s economy.”
