Research Triangle Region, N.C. — The Research Triangle Regional Partnership (RTRP) released findings today showing the smart grid sector in the Triangle region has 60 percent more firms now than previously known just two years ago. Ninety-six smart grid companies were identified in the Triangle, up from 59 in 2011. The total count is 200 firms when including companies that specialize in efficient water management and efficient transportation. Fourteen percent of those companies have been established in the last five years, suggesting rapid growth in one of the main sectors of the cleantech industry in the region.Read more
Research Triangle Region, N.C. – Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) companies plan a full-court press Tuesday serving as judges and expert panelists for the U.S. Department of Energy’s second annual ACC Clean Energy Business Plan Challenge at N.C. State University. Top executives from ABB, Duke Energy, Power Analytics Corp., Schneider Electric, Sensus and Siemens will judge business plan presentations made by teams from 10 competing Atlantic Coast Conference schools. The winning team will receive $100,000 to seed its venture and the chance to compete in the National Clean Energy Business Plan Finals.
“These student entrepreneurs and their universities are our future,” said Kevin O’Hara, vice president of smart grid operations for Siemens and RTCC founding board member, one of the cluster executives volunteering as judge. “They are key drivers of innovation in new energy and resource technologies. Research Triangle Region economic developers and companies have officially entered the race to make the region a leader in plug-in electric vehicle (PEV) technologies.
The Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) will announce today (Wednesday, March 13) the launch of a smart transportation industry focus that will capitalize on the region’s critical mass of PEV companies and research, as well as a statewide plan to make North Carolina plug-in ready from mountains to sea.Read more
Research Triangle Region, N.C. – The Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) has tapped RTI International for a research project to map and analyze the 13-county Research Triangle Region’s assets in smart grid, smart water and smart transportation.
Also in February, board members launched a market and brand development project and elected a powerhouse slate of officers who will steer RTCC’s strategy to accelerate growth in the region’s clean technology sector.Read more
