Communications & Events Manager:

The Communications & Events Manager will be responsible for establishing and maintaining the Research Triangle Cleantech Cluster (RTCC) brand through strategic marketing initiatives and regional events. This person will oversee the organization’s digital communication assets, while also elevating the organization through traditional media, including local and national news publications. The Communications & Events Manager will also be the primary point of contact for RTCC organized events along with national trade shows and partner events. This position will set the overall strategic communications direction for the organization. The Communications & Events Manager reports directly to the Executive Director.


Communications/Marketing (40% Time):

  • Develop an annual organization-wide, communications/marketing plan
  • Develop a public relations strategy to obtain media coverage for RTCC programs to include:
    • Press Releases
    • Op-Eds
    • Advertising (In-Kind & Paid)
  • Manage RTCC digital communication assets including:
    • Website
    • Social Media
    • Email Newsletter
    • Member case studies and videos
    • Webinars
  • Identify and manage promotional partnerships with regional and national organizations
  • Work with the Membership Recruitment & Retention Manager to develop and implement new communication strategies to recruit new member companies
  • Continuously monitor and scan media publications to keep up with all relevant and timely news from member organizations

Event Management (60% Time):

  • Develop and manage RTCC programs and events including:
    • Annual Meeting
    • SMART Series Panel Discussions
    • Quarterly Networking Events
    • Other misc. events & programming as identified by team and partners
  • Identify speaking opportunities for RTCC members at regional and national conferences
  • Manage delegations of member companies to national and international conferences
  • Oversee and organize a committee of regional, cleantech communications/marketing professionals

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

A successful candidate ideally has worked successfully in a dynamic, high-growth organization, preferably with a membership or customer base, and had to anticipate and plan for their needs. The successful candidate also possesses a blend of the following:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 3-4 years of professional experience in communications, event planning, or membership development/services
  • Excellent interpersonal skills
  • Service-oriented, resourceful, continuous learner, highest level of integrity
  • Background and work experience in project management and/or customer relations
  • Ability to manage multiple projects with different timelines with a small, dynamic team
  • Self-motivated and driven

Desired Qualifications

  • Background in energy and/or sustainability is a plus
  • Experience organizing events is highly desired
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Direct experience working with CRM and website management software
  • Basic knowledge of HTML is a plus
  • Basic knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite is a plus
  • Demonstrated proficiency in social media tools, including Google Analytics
  • Proficiency in MS Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and cloud-based applications
  • Assertive in contacting vendors for events and members for website content
  • If needed, ability to travel/attend conferences out of region 2-3 times per year
  • Ability to work early morning and evening hours as needed for programs
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, communications, or other related field
  • Detail oriented with excellent organizational skills
  • Creative, problem-solver
  • Excellent project management skills, including demonstrated ability to plan, organize, and manage multiple events with different timelines with limited direct supervision

Hiring range: $42,000 – $55,000 DOE with excellent retirement and benefits compensation
